The Director and leader of FNPF

Drh I. Gede Nyoman Bayu Wirayudha

Drh. Bayu Wirayudha holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Udayana University, Bali. He is the founding director of FNPF, and holds other directorships including with Yayasan Bebali, which works with traditional cultural revitalization, and with the Begawan Giri Foundation, where his program breeding the endangered Leucopsar rothschildi rates among the most successful in the world. In 2003, Drh. Bayu was nominated for Indonesia’s Kalpataru (Hero of the Earth) Award for his work with conservation. He has again been nominated for this award in 2007 and we await the outcome. In addition to his NGO work, Drh. Bayu has extensive experience working closely with all levels of government and with the private sector. The quality of his work with FNPF can be seen in the successes it has achieved, and in the trust placed in FNPF by major donors including HSI Australia and the Gibbon Foundation. Drh. Bayu provides vital leadership and oversight to FNPF.

Senior Personnel

I Made Widana, Drh. Veterinarian, University of Udayana.

Made (Bombom) commenced with FNPF in l998 at the Kalimantan site as a volunteer in the Orangutan rehabilitation programme. He taught English in villages around Tanjung Puting, returning in 2000. He rejoined FNPF in 2004 as the Site manager at the Nusa Penida Bird Sanctuary.

I Made Sugiarta, Drh. Veterinarian, University of Udayana.

Made Sugiarta has been active in conservation since Senior High School.

In 1998 because of his conservation knowledge he was appointed as the Cadre of Conservation at BKSDA Bali, and became active in FKKKI; providing environmental education. He also helped establish environmentalist's groups and conservation clubs. In 1999 he took part in the University Udayana research into Freshwater Turtles and Green Turtles. His career in conservation began in 2002 when he became Manager of Operations with FNPF at the Tanjung Puting National Park. In 2003, with a scholarship from “Earthwatch” he studied “Management of Wildlife and the Ecology“ in the New South Wales National Parks, Australia. With the support of Conservation International he led a survey into the various kinds of the forest wildcats in TNTP and a survey into Malayan Sun Bears. From May 2004 he surveyed and planned the potential of the Nusa Penida Bird Sanctuary as a site for the protection of birds and became Office Manager once the Bird Sanctuary Project began.
