30 December 2025 | 8:35 AM (WITA) — This morning, a rescue was carried out to protect the Bali Starling, an endemic bird that is still very vulnerable in the wild. FNPF Besikalung conservation team rescued two Bali Starling nestlings after their natural nest collapsed due to extreme weather at the Sambhrama Ashram tourist area, Bolangan. The nest is believed to have fallen after heavy rain and strong winds during the night.
Lintang Subagiyo, a conservation staff member from FNPF Besikalung Wildlife Sanctuary, was conducting routine daily monitoring in the tourism area when he noticed something unusual—the tree he regularly monitored was no longer standing. After gathering information from around the site, it was confirmed that the tree had most likely fallen the night before due to severe weather conditions.

During the rescue, two Bali Starling nestlings were found trapped in their collapsed nest and were quickly rescued to prevent injury and predator attacks. From the initial observation, the team also cleaned the two nestlings to protect them from possible insect attacks and carried out an early health check to make sure there were no serious injuries. Based on these observations, the two rescued Bali Starling nestlings are estimated to be about seven days old—an age when they fully depend on protection and quick response to survive.

“We never know what we will find during daily monitoring. Today showed us how quickly nature can change,” said Lintang. “This rescue was done so the nestlings still have a chance to live.”
This event reminds us that Bali Starling conservation faces many challenges, not only poaching and habitat loss, but also extreme weather that is happening more often. Regular monitoring and quick response are very important to protect wildlife.
We will continue to closely monitor the two rescued Bali Starling nestlings and ensure they receive proper care in line with wildlife conservation principles.
