The Proboscis monkey, native to Kalimantan and the rest of Borneo, is classified as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species.
OUR PROJECTS IN KALIMANTAN
In Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo, we run projects in and around Tanjung Puting National Park and Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve.
Using our holistic approach to conservation we focus on wildlife, habitat, and community, to ensure effective, sustainable long-term results.
Our projects include the rehabilitation and release of wildlife, such as orangutans, sea turtles, endangered birds, and sun bears. Along with this, we also replant the native forests, monitor existing forests and help conserve native plant species.
Our community development programs are about empowerment; we help local people to develop alternative income sources through agroforestry and organic/self-sustainable farming, while also providing environmental education.
We have been working in Kalimantan since 1997. Today, our projects are funded by many generous donors, including the Humane Society International (Australia), who have supported us for more than 14 years, Boeing, Taronga Foundation, Buy One Give One, Save Indonesian Endangered Species and Eco Future Fund Japan.
