In the small village of Pejeng, our team collaborates with the local community to protect wildlife and preserve their habitats. We also promote organic farming and are developing sustainable tourism initiatives that directly benefit local residents.
Pejeng, home to FNPF’s headquarters, is a traditional village surrounded by rice fields. It’s Bali’s largest archaeological site, featuring 44 temples—many of which are national heritage sites—and a prehistory museum. The village is also a wildlife sanctuary, making it a paradise for bird watchers. Pejeng offers vibrant morning and night markets and numerous warungs where you can sample local cuisine. Just 5km from the popular town of Ubud, Pejeng remains a hidden gem, largely untouched by tourism.
VOLUNTEER LIFE
We need volunteers with a range of skills, from people who can lend a hand in organic farms and gardens to wildlife monitoring and teaching English. No experience or qualifications are needed, but please let us know what skills and interests you have.
One of our current projects is to attract more eco-tourism to Pejeng. There are lots of ways volunteers can help with this, such as:
- teaching hospitality skills and running conversational English lessons for the community
- developing a Pejeng website and promoting the area on social media
- organizing day trips and experiences for bloggers and journalists
- cataloguing Pejeng’s heritage and signposting cultural and natural sites
Generally, our volunteers work two to four hours a day. That’s enough to play an important role and engage with the community, while giving you plenty of free time to explore and relax in Bali.
HOW TO APPLY
Please fill in an application with your preferred dates and email it to info@fnpf.org. We will be in touch as soon as we can to let you know if we have availability. If you have any specialist skills, please let us know. You will need to pay a 50% deposit to secure your place and the remaining 50% a week before you arrive. If you have any questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to email us.

VOLUNTEER FEES
As a not-for-profit operation, all proceeds from volunteering help fund our projects. When you volunteer, not only do you get the chance to stay in a unique environment and help with conservation and community development projects, your fees also help pay for this vital work to continue.
Currently, we are unable to provide any volunteer accommodation at our HQ. However, you can stay in our associated local homestay or alternatively find your own accommodation. We work closely with Mai Organic Farm, where you can learn about organic farming, work with local artisans at a woodcarving workshop, and teach English to the children in the village.
In the Pejeng local homestay, it costs USD $24/day/person, including a homestay with breakfast, lunch and a donation to FNPF.
If you don’t stay at the local homestay and find independent accommodation, it costs USD $17.5/day/person (lunch and donation).
