OUR GOAL

At Friends of Nature, People and Forests (FNPF) our goal is sustainable conservation, that balances the needs of Indonesia’s wildlife and environment, with the well-being of local communities.

We’ve been internationally recognised for our rehabilitation and release project on Nusa Penida island. The project has saved the critically endangered Bali Starling (Leucopsar Rothschildi) from extinction in the wild and has brought other endangered birds back to the wild.

Our team rehabilitate rescued and cage-bred animals and birds teaching them the skills they need to survive in the wild. Our nurseries produce tens of thousands of tree saplings every year, which we use to replant forests and other natural habitats.

A big part of what we do is about improving the well-being of the local communities and earning their support for our projects. We provide livelihood opportunities, through education, agro-forestry, eco-tourism and farming. That means people are less likely to take up environmentally destructive jobs, such as illegal logging, mining, or on palm oil plantations.

We’ve been doing this work for more than 20 years. Today, thanks to our dedicated team we operate conservation projects at five sites across Indonesia. FNPF has a long-term track record of cost-effective projects that achieve results. We are 100% funded through donations and volunteer tourism.
