Education scholarships for young Indonesians

Help a young person attend school or university

As part of our community development programs we provide financial support to poor families on Bali’s Nusa Penida island and in Kalimantan, Borneo to send children to school and university.

Currently we sponsor 66 school children and one university student. Your support will help us to continue this important work, and increase the number of scholarships we can give.

  • US$25 will allow a student to attend school for one month
  • US$300 will allow a student to attend school for one year
  • US$85 will allow a student to attend university for one month
  • US$1,000 will allow a student to attend university for one year

Some of the young people from Bali's Nusa Penida island who have received school scholarships.

The scholarship program is a way we can give back to the community in return for their protection of endangered birds and other wildlife, and for their participation in our reforestation efforts through our tree planting days. The scholarships do not cover all of the expenses but provide enough financial support to assist parents to send a child to school or university.

For school scholarships, FNPF gives a monthly donation to each village and the village then selects the families who will receive  that financial support.

Scholarship recipient Kadek Widada Asmara is studying to be a vet.

The selected child must be in the top 20 of their school and from a poor family as confirmed by the head of their village. We encourage the villages to select girls, as they have fewer opportunities than boys to access education, but this is not mandatory.

For university scholarships, candidates are invited to apply to FNPF. Candidates must be in the top 20 at their high school based on their national examination result, and must demonstrate a strong interest and participation in conservation and community activities.

They must also be looking to study in a field that will assist conservation efforts and community wellbeing, and also from a poor family.

Among those currently sponsoring education scholarships with us are a number of private donors, along with the Humane Society International (Australia) and the Rotary Club Bali Seminyak.
